Paige Hemmis Jesse H. Wright, M.D., Ph.D. Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA)

Jesse H. Wright, M.D., Ph.D., is a professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Louisville, where he also serves as associate chairman for Academic Affairs and director of the Depression Center.  Additionally, he is the medical director of the Norton Psychiatric Center and a policy advisor for the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA).

As a recognized authority in the treatment of depression and related mental health disorders, Dr. Wright lectures widely on mood disorders, psychopharmacology, cognitive-behavior therapy, and psychiatric treatment. He is the principal author of six books, including Getting Your Life Back: The Complete Guide to Recovery from Depression, which encourages readers to develop a personalized plan for taking an active role in depression management.  His research also has focused on the development of innovative treatment methods for depression.  Dr. Wright is the principal author of "Good Days Ahead: The Interactive Program for Depression and Anxiety," the first multimedia computer program for treatment of depression.

Dr. Wright was the founding president of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy and is a past president of the Kentucky Psychiatric Association.   He also is a fellow of the American College of Psychiatrists. He graduated from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and completed his residency training in psychiatry at the University of Michigan. He currently resides in Louisville, Ky.

Through his participation in the Blueprint for Hope campaign, Dr. Wright hopes to raise awareness among patients about treatment options and the importance of teaming with a health care professional to find a depression treatment plan that works.
